30A Rental Bikes | Seven Fall Fitness Tips

by | Sep 4, 2013 | Blog

Fall is the most opportune time to start a fitness program. The weather is cooler and the change of season is inspiring.  Fall is also a great time to start a new program or develop new skills, so that your healthy habits are formed before the holidays and the winter cold sets in.

Here are 7 Tips to help you take full advantage of the Fall Season:

Take Advantage of the Outdoors

The air is crisp, the scenery is changing, and it’s time to take in the wonder of nature. Discover new walking trails in your area and visit them often.  As for the beach, it is less crowded, leaving it open to you for walking and beach games. Canoeing and kayaking are perfect for a whole-body workout. The Emerald Coast shows its beauty in the fall, so visit a neighboring town for a new outdoor activity and experience.

Enjoy Community Events

The season for holiday events have begun with many choices for charity races and fun runs.  A 1991 summary report by ERIC Digest revealed that having a specific goal such as a race to train for, increases commitment to an exercise program. When you sign up with friends or family, you have accountability partners who can help you complete your training.

Workout Early in the Day

With the time change and darker hours in the morning and evening if feels as if the day always feels than it is. It is natural to feel tired. If you start your workout routine in the morning, you will make sure you get it done and you will still have time to relax in the afternoon and evening.

Start New Activities

It’s a great time to start something new and different. Try a new dance class or a new sport. Take the time for rejuvenation. Treat yourself not just with physical activities but other activities that promote well being. Get a massage after your run. Learn meditation. Try an art class.

Plan Ahead to Avoid Holiday Sweets

It’s the time for holiday sweets-bake sales, apple pies, Halloween candy. Be sure to pack your own healthy snacks to enjoy during the day rather than grazing on all the sweets that show up in the office during these holiday seasons. Have a healthy meal that you love before going to a Holiday party. You’ll be less likely to taste everything at the party and be able to choose the specific treats you do want.

Add your exercise to TV Watching

The new fall season of your favorite shows have begun. Rather than just sitting down to watch them, add exercise while you enjoy your shows. You can walk or run in place. Or do standing lunges, tricep dips off the couch, or lift weights. During commercials, get in some sit ups or push ups. Do you know that you will most likely have 20 minutes worth of commercial breaks within a one hour show? Make them exercise breaks instead and be healthy while you watch your favorites.
